An independent software studio.

AvecVu designs, builds, and ships its own software. Two products are live today: Recon, which reads a cycling route and briefs you on what is ahead, and Trainlog, which puts a training plan and a strength log on your phone. Both run in a browser, free, with no AvecVu account to create, and what they know stays on your device. The engineer who builds them uses them every week, on the same roads and the same plans.

Recon

Takes a cycling route and reports what is on it: the water, the climbs, and the weather and light for the hour you will be there.

A route comes in from Ride with GPS, from a GPX file, from a shared link, or by scanning a QR code from another rider's phone. No account is required.

The climbing

Climbs are found in the track itself and reported with their start, end, and gradient. Minor bumps are filtered out so the list stays short enough to read. The gain total is Ride with GPS's figure, and Recon says so on the tab. The climbs themselves are measured from USGS terrain data, checked against a barometric ride. Tap a climb and the map goes to it and draws it.

The day you are riding

Give a pace and Recon works out when you would be at each point of the route, then reports the weather hour by hour along it. Wind is resolved against the direction of travel into headwind, crosswind, and tailwind, so the same wind reads as a crosswind at mile 43 and a headwind at mile 64. Sunrise and sunset are computed on the device, so a route can be planned for any day of the year. Forecasts run 16 days ahead and get less certain the further out they go.

What might go wrong

Six conditions are watched: heat, cold, wind, rain, darkness, and air quality. The one most likely to affect that particular ride is stated in full. The rest sit beside it in a quieter line.

Taking it out on the road

The route exports as a course file carrying both the turn directions and the notes Recon writes about what is coming: the climb starting, the last water for a while. You can add your own, and when the list would crowd a head unit, Recon drops its own lowest priority cues first and says so. A Wahoo or Garmin head unit that supports course messages shows them as banners while you ride, and uploading the same file to Ride with GPS lets their app speak the same cues aloud, on their paid plan. Preview steps through every cue on the map, each one sitting where it will fire.

Once the route and the map are saved, Recon works with no signal at all. A route can be handed to someone else as a link, as a QR code, or as a file that carries every point.

Trainlog

Puts a training plan on your phone and logs the strength work day by day.

Trainlog began because intervals.icu, the online training calendar the plan lives on, has an interface built for deep analysis rather than for reading a plan on a phone. Trainlog's interface is built for exactly that: endurance and strength training plans you can read at a glance.

It reads the plan from intervals.icu using your own API key. The key stays in your browser; nothing passes through AvecVu. An intervals.icu account is required, and the plan lives on intervals.icu rather than in Trainlog.

Plan draws the season as one arc of weekly bars, colored by phase, with the current week marked. The coach's strategy sits above it, and tapping any week opens it. Plan versus done puts what was prescribed next to what was actually recorded, session by session.

Week lays the plan out day by day, with the weeks either side a tap away. The coach's notes ride along with the sessions they explain, so the reasoning is read in the same place the work is prescribed.

Strength

The strength logger takes weight, reps, and rest for every set, warmup ramps included. The rest timer runs on wall clock time, so it keeps correct time while you put the phone down. Each exercise carries its own notes, a double progression cue for when to add weight, an estimated one rep max, total volume, and a chart of progression over time.

Templates

Full Body, Upper/Lower, Push Pull Legs, and 5x5 are included. The editor changes any of them or builds a new one from scratch, and any template exports to a file and imports back. Nothing you log is uploaded, and it does not appear on a second phone. Clearing the browser data for the site clears the log, so export anything worth keeping.

About AvecVu.

AvecVu is the studio of Vu Le, a data engineer and architect for thirty years: fourteen at Microsoft, including architecture work with customers across Asia Pacific; six at AWS as a Senior Data Architect; most recently at Epic Games, on data infrastructure for game analytics.

The work so far spans data platforms, cloud infrastructure, storage and backup systems, AI tooling, and software for training and endurance sports. Most of it is private. Recon and Trainlog are the exceptions: both were built for his own training, and both are released free. What changes is recorded in a dated changelog.
